It is very common for those cars when the instrument cluster display has missing pixels or have damage on the display which looks like the web. The Porsche 996 was the first 911 to feature a modern control system-set the desired cabin temperature and the electronics would do the rest. At the heart of the system is a control box in the center console with buttons and a large, clear LCD display. It works very well but, as the cars get older, it’s becoming common to find faulty LCD screen-usually one corner fails leading to an orange smudge. The installation should include:
- instrument cluster disassembling
- removal of the old ribbon cables
- cleaning up all the residuals from the old ribbon cables
- properly aligning and heat bonding the new cables with the bonding machine or T-Tip soldering tool (see our other listings).
